IGNJAT TALKS MUSIC VIDEOS
Ignjat Miletic started cinematography at age 15 shooting skateboarding videos. Using his uncle’s old camera, with a battery that would die after 3 minutes created a challenge that taught him to plan his shots and think ahead. He quickly progressed into shooting music videos for Dutch music artists that eventually got played on TV. From the beginning of his career Ignjat said “No matter what camera you use, no matter the budget, I taught myself the importance of good lighting. I came to realize that light is the magic touch”. Now Ignjat looks to create the most interesting frames using the camera and lights of his choosing.
“No matter what camera you use, no matter the budget, I taught myself the importance of good lighting. I came to realize that light is the magic touch”
His latest project, the Vinai music video (https://youtu.be/MGogAZ1dM6c) got over 3.3 million views. Ignjat used a Chimera light bank in combination with a Jokerbug 800 light for front soft lighting and a hard dedolight and Arrilight spot in the back.
Ignjat always tries to keep his lighting set up simple but effective to make it look nice and “pop out depth”. “Chimera Video Pro medium or large lightbank are my trusted partner when it comes to lighting. This is because it produces very clear and soft light with an even spread”. Most of the time he works with soft lighting on the actors/talent, with a Chimera and a hard light in the background or sides.
Ignjat then asks which mood does he want to bring across, which actors to cast, what and how much lighting is needed depending on the locations they choose/create. Due to location time limits he plans every shot in advance into detail, leaving room to be agile, however preparation is always key.
“The most excitement I get, is from it all coming together and seeing my initial idea being shot through my lens and being transformed in the edit.”
Storytelling and vision drive Ignjat. As a director he ensures that nothing is left to chance. Music artists like Vinai inspire complete scenarios and scripts, that are endless in possibilities. Bringing the vision across to the team and putting it all down on paper is crucial. Ignjat knows exactly how to translate this. “The most excitement I get, is from it all coming together and seeing my initial idea being shot through my lens and being transformed in the edit.”
When Ignjat leaves his workshop he always tries to have his light setup to get the best result. In his kit: “To light my talent in front of the camera I use a couple of Jokerbug 800’s with Chimera lightbanks. To fill shape or highlight the background I mostly use Arri HMI’s or Dedo lights with scrims or filters. To fill in small corners or objects I use various small battery LED lights. And Flags and Kupo grip stands to finesse the final touches.”
Ignjat works with creative partners and talented AD Agency’s for Record companies, Fashion labels and (consumer) electronic brands like :
