Boulder, June 2016—Today, Chimera Lighting announced the first LED Panel Adapter for Octabanks for mounting 5 foot OctaPlus TECH lightbanks on LED panels. Until recently, output from LED panels was only strong enough to work with smaller lightbanks. But thanks to technological advances, the intensity of light from LED fixtures has increased to the point where using them in concert with larger OctaPlus lightbanks is now a viable solution, meeting the demand for a light modifier that increases the light aperture of the fixture.
Shane Hurlbut, ASC is a very focused man. After securing a degree in film and television from Emerson College in 1986, the cinematographer quickly found himself learning grip and electrical work on movies like Phantasm II and Teen Witch. Since then, he has expanded his portfolio to include lead camera on nearly twenty films, including blockbusters like Need For Speed and Terminator: Salvation. The latter he shot with director McG, who just worked with him again on a film called The Babysitter, which is in post production. The film stars Russell Crowe and Jane Fonda. Hurlbut also completed the drama Fathers and Daughters with director Gabrielle Muccino late last year. It will premiere domestically in theaters this July.
Traditionally tungsten lighting has been problematic for me, with high temperatures making them hard to modify and still producing less than stellar results. But my opinion has changed since I started using the Chimera Triolet. The Triolet is a small lighting fixture that can handle light sources, including tungsten bulbs, up to 1,000 watts.
